Seasonal job description


Whenever a change in season has a direct effect on work flow or consumer numbers, there is a need for seasonal workers to help deal with that change. Demand for seasonal staff may be affected by either changes in weather conditions or important festivals or events, such as Christmas, Easter and New Year celebrations
The UK’s summer provides a wealth of working opportunities, from low-skilled fruit picking jobs to salaried administrative positions at stately homes. Many jobs exist for gardeners, catering staff and visitor assistants to work in tourist attractions throughout the country.
The National Trust is one of the biggest employers for work of this kind, with many vacancies advertised around May. Christmas is another busy season for the UK, and the increased demand for staff at this time creates many temporary opportunities, especially in the retail sector
Seasonal work pays an average of £6 – 7 an hour and there may sometimes be opportunities for overtime at particularly busy periods. Much of the work can be found through agencies, although this excludes workers from receiving the fixed-term benefits enjoyed by permanent employees.


There are many people who perform Seasonal jobs. This allows consultants, and other professionals to take advantage of peak business seasons in certain industries. For example, working in sales or retail during the Christmas season; this is a sure way f earning additional income.
Many of these jobs are posted on the internet, local newspaper and local classified papers and websites. These jobs require you to work flexible hours. Some individuals only work Seasonal and part time jobs in stores, shops and boutiques.
Seasonal worker usually performs many of the following tasks:
•    Putting out new stock
•    Clearing the floor 
•    Doing stock taking
•    Finding products for customers
•    Answering customer questions
•    Attending meetings


•    Being courteous and respectful to customers
•    Being resourceful and engaging
•    Being able to handle stressful situations
•    Using product information wisely
•    Being professional and motivated
•    Being able to communicate in written and verbal form
•    Being organised and flexible
•    Being organised and efficient
•    Negotiating and networking
•    Teamwork and accuracy


This profession does not require a formal education; tough having basic education and subjects like Maths, English and Science are advised. Seasonal workers need to be literate, understand numeracy and can understand written and verbal instructions. Communication skills are highly valued because, in order to get a sale, one must be able to understand the clients.
